The Lost Movement Company was founded in 2011 from an idea by choreographer Nicolò Abbattista in collaboration with dramaturg Christian Consalvo, Artistic Director of the Company since 2024. The artistic duo develops a choreographic research path focused on the relationship between body, roots, and community, having produced to date around 30 works presented in Italy, Europe, and Africa.
A distinctive feature of the Company is the pursuit of a synergistic union between technique and gesture, which becomes a sign of recognizable everyday life, allowing viewers to find familiarity with their own experience. Attention to dramaturgy also facilitates engagement with audiences less familiar with contemporary dance languages.
The most recent works involve collaboration with multi-instrumentalist composer Filippo Ripamonti, combining choreographic and musical research through original compositions and reinterpretations of classics, adding further complexity and depth to the pieces.
Over the years, the Company has collaborated with cultural institutions, developing projects that intertwine production, training, and audience engagement: Fondazione Cariplo, Oriente Occidente Dance Festival, CCN/Aterballetto, DANCEHAUSpiù, Cro.me – Cronaca e Memoria dello Spettacolo, Milano Dancing City, FLIC – Festival Lanciano In Contemporanea, and Kilowatt Festival.
Lost Movement has received awards and recognition in significant events, including La Danza in 1 Minuto, Danz’è Off, Time To Move, Nessuno Resti Fuori, Movin’ Up, Premio Speciale Movin’ Up Spettacolo – Performing Arts, Festival Presente Futuro, Danza Urbana XL, and Dancescapes – Mobility Grant.
In 2023, within the framework of the Per Chi Crea – Live and National and International Promotion program, Lost Movement benefited from the support of the Ministry of Culture and SIAE for the national and international mobility of under-35 artists.
In recent years, Lost Movement has supported three young authors and performers, Giovanni Careccia, Sara Gaboardi, and Francesca Pagnini, currently Associate Artists of the Company, consolidating its identity as a space for research, innovation, and artistic transmission.
